Gong Xi Birthday for Ivan

This year we celebrated Ivan's third birthday at my in-law's place coincide with the 2nd day of CNY (where married daughter will be visiting their parents). My parent in-laws was trilled having Ivan celebrating his birthday with them. So is also Ivan's aunties. The special part is having Reanne this time around celebrating with her big little brother.

We bought Secret Recipe's yogurt cheese cake with extra two cute dinasours on it. Ivan loves the cake. In fact this is first time seeing him finishing his cake. Normally he don't like cake. He must have out grown the old things already.

Didn't manage to take a lot of photos as I was also in the centre of the event.

Ivan turning three already

Today, Ivan will be celebrating his third birthday for turning three years old already. Just incredible isn't it how our little precious one grows right in front of our eyes. All glory be unto the Lord.

Father, I continue to surrender Ivan into Thy gracious hand for what is best for his life. All of our hope, aspiration, expectation we yield it to Your will. Guide and teach us Lord on how best to cultivate, inspire, empower our son to be more like Christ just as we too at the same time learn the walk with You. Thank you Lord once again for this precious gift You have given into our life.

Alert on Peanut Butter

As reported in Star Online, Government has placed all peanut butter from the United States on Level 5 alert following several salmonella-linked deaths there. Under Level 5, stringent tests would be carried out first to determine if the product are safe for consumption.

US authorities on Friday said seven people had died from a nationwide outbreak of salmonella associated with tainted peanut butter and paste sourced to the Peanut Corporation of America’s (PCA) plant in Blakely, Georgia. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified the bacterial strain as Salmonella Typhimurium.

Another 10 US firms Friday recalled products which use PCA peanut butter or paste -- bringing to roughly 360 the number of products affected -- as it emerged that the plant at the centre of the probe laid off most of its roughly 50 workers, US papers said.

The recalled products range from snack bars to crackers and pre-packaged meals and even pet food. But products containing peanuts not sourced from the PCA plant are deemed safe.

Companies that recently added foods to the FDA’s recall list include:

  • Ready Pac Foods, Inc.: Ready Pac Cool Cuts Celery with Peanut Butter; Trader Joe’s Celery with Peanut Butter; Eating Right Apples with Peanut Butter; Eating Right Celery with Peanut Butter.
  • NutriSystem Inc: Various lot codes of NutriSystem-branded Peanut Butter Granola Bars 1.41 ounces or 40 grams.
  • Premier Nutrition: Select TWISTED and TITAN branded nutrition bars that contain peanut butter. This recall includes Vanilla, Chocolate and Peanut Butter varieties of the TWISTED bar, as well as TWISTED bar variety packs in 15 and 24 count. Also TITAN bars, Chocolate Peanut Crunch variety.
  • Boca Grande Foods Inc. of Duluth, Ga., is recalling POCO PAC and GRANDE GOURMET peanut butter and peanut butter and jelly combination products.
  • Dinners Ready of Meridian, ID is recalling the Asian Marinated Flank Steak with Sesame Vegetable Stir Fry, Indonesian Chicken with Coconut Rice, and Chicken Satay & Bangkok Peanut Sauce with Jasmine Rice meals prepared from their November & December menus. The marinades used for the protein portions of the meals were made using peanut butter. The recall applies only to the protein portion that comes as part of the packaged dinners and not to the side dish or Bangkok Peanut sauce accompanying the meals.
  • Blanton’s Candies of Sweetwater, TN: Approximately 1,400 pounds of Blanton’s Peanut Butter Sticks packaged in 8 ounce cellophane bags.

Hey, I only realised Mr. Obama is a lefty too. Wow!!!

I rest my case. Full stop.

History maker

When US newly elected President Barack Obama take the oath of office, I missed the much awaited inauguration ceremony which available live on TV. Too tired after driving 6 hours all the ways from Lumut back to Kajang (traffic was very bad that day in KL)

It is indeed a new chapter of history written not only in US nation but also undoubtedly a history that impacting the rest of the world. Millions of soul around the world watch the process beside the citizen of US.

Indeed change has come! I felt the momentum will be picking up from now on from what Mr. Obama have started.

From the impossible to possible. God has trully demonstrated that nothing is impossible if we preservere. Surely we should not loose hope for our beloved country Malaysia for the wave of change to come.

Out of this world DSLR!!!

As I have just learned today from my Mind Mapping course, a child's brain (kindergarden level) can achieved 95% creativity compares to any age range. Being a daddy, I see it manifesting in my son, Ivan's imagination.

I guess it must been the daddy influence (love of photography), Ivan have develop his own as well. More than that.......he developed his very own DSLR camera! It's really no joke about it. See by your self. We didn't teach him. He must have been observing a lot since there is a lot of photographers with DSLR around anyway (except mine.....which is a pro-consumer DSLR). He combine several different type of his toy to made one CAMERA. Maybe should protect and patent his invention for property intelligent right :)

Really blow your mine away on how their imagination can really be.

Full of fun

Today and tomorrow, the Head of Departments and directors from my office is attending a 2 days course on Mind Mapping at IOI Merriott Hotel, Putrajaya.

From the beginning I know the course would be an interesting one since it cover the subject I am interesting in. In fact I have bought a book last year on Mind Mapping by Tony Buzan.....unfortunately have not finish it yet. So, a bonus to me to have a crashed course on the subject matter and reading about it. The course turns out more than what I expected. It's fun!!!

First the instructor/couch (Mr. KC Liew), is a great guy......both funny and easy going. Second, guess what he made all of us learn to juggle. Yes, I mean like the circus clown juggling with 3 balls. He literally gave each of us 3 small balls to do it. Every one is on it even our directors, MD and top managements. And every one is having fun!!!

Nevertheless we did learn a great deal about our brain. And how to train our mind to think, work and function better. I am looking forward for tomorrow on what will install for us.

On schedule

This round of schedule planning was very much improved compared to the last two round that I have been through. At least no last minute ticket booking and postponing of dates. We booked the tickets almost a week earlier from the actual flight date.

I also have improved my medical supplies. Added with flu tablets, diarrhea tablets, dehydration solution, plasters for now. Just in case la..... after last 'lao sai' experience.

So, I will not be round town next week from 14th to 16th Jan. The next trip should be right after Chinese New Year Chap Goh Mei (15th day of CNY.....the last day of CNY).

By the way, Cambodian don't celebrate CNY. Thus there were no public holiday for it.

Synchronise fish

This video clip sent by my colleague very made my Friday at hilarious one.

Once you watch the clip, you will definitely know why. Just can't believe your eyes!

Beware of mosquitos

Just before new year, my father in-law was admitted due to dengue like symptoms. His entire body joints was aching especially the back portion of his head. It was very unbearable to him given that he is a very tough person. Sure enough the blood count was very low. Unfortunately there is no medications or drugs available to cure this sickness. The doctor only prescription is to drink plenty of water into the body system.

Thank God after two days, the blood count (white and platelets) have improved and able to be discharged accordingly. Normal person have 4,000–11,000 white blood cells and about 150,000–400,000 platelets in each microliter of human blood. Anything lower than that is not healthy.

While we are there visiting at University Hospital, there were plenty of other patients with dengue cases. And worst, new ones are still being admitted daily until there were limited wards available. Do take action to keep mosquito spreading around our living area and keep an eye on any symptoms that liken to dengue.

Signs and Symptoms
  • sudden onset of severe headache, muscle and joint pains
  • fever,
  • rash. The dengue rash is characteristically bright red and usually appears first on the lower limbs and the chest; in some patients, it spreads to cover most of the body.
  • There may also be gastritis with some combination of associated abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

Big saver

It was a well worth hunting that we did last Sunday that finally enable us to save...... a bit more to the wallet.

Few days before that the very essential breast pump we need around for Reanne was accidentally broken. Mummy was very frustrated. First because the pump was a bit costly tools which we brought it during Ivan breastfeeding period. Second, since it was broken mummy enable to extract milks for storage. So, it was pretty urgent to quickly get a new one.

We start an immediate search for it. It was not that the breast pump was difficult to find. In fact it was a very popular brand i.e. Avent which is available at most baby stores. The problem is that we wanted to safe as much for this re-investment. Retail priced at RM219 just for the pump set. Unfortunately we can't find any at Jusco, Parkson or other baby stores around our Kajang area even though it was sales period.

Then mummy found out that Babyjaya at Damansara Utama offered 20% discount for the specific pump that we are looking for. We waited until Sunday after worship service to drop by. It was our first time visiting the store. Thanks to my brother direction (whom been there before), we manage to found it. There it was......unbelievable only RM189. We just save ourselves RM30.

On the other hand, we also found something that we have been trying high and low looking around for. A multi purpose hook (RM17.90) to be added to the baby stroller. Talk about hunting for treasures.

Surely Babyjaya is quite a place we want to recommend for finding great products and bargains. Anyway they are still having sales promotion until 11th Jan 2009.

Potty anyone?

Out of the blue, we just try running a trial potty training for our little girl Reanne today. Anyway after coming home from Sunday service today in ther afternoon, Reanne still have not do her regular poo-poo yet. So, what the heck.....we decided to borrow Ivan potty for Reanne to try on. After some persuasion by mummy you know by doing the pushing sound, Reanne did do her 'business'. It's a big hurray for our little girl today. Keep up the good 'business' Mei Mei!

Ivan attend music class

3rd Jan (Saturday) marked a starting of new learning curve for our boy Ivan. He started his first day of the Yamaha Music Kids at the Kajang Yamaha studio. I have previously brought him for the trial class one month ago.

This round is mummy turn to accompany him through the course for the next nine months. I on the other hand, get my hands full with taking care of Reanne by lepaking around the shopping centre.......for one hour. Not bad on my part as Reanne was very co-operative as I stroll her around while window shopping for my potential new year clothes.

After one hour is up, we showed up at the studio to see how the mummy-son team doing. While waiting Reanne shown an interest at a demo digital piano which being displayed there. I can't help it as I graped my camera starting to capture Reanne enthusiatic expression.....especially her fingers. Possible for an up and coming pianist when now we got ourselves a drummer?

Well, Ivan did ok for his first actual lesson. Mummy said he didn't participated much, may be just still shy. Need more of the breaking the ais things I guess. When we were on our car while driving back home, we can't help it but try to get some assurance of his new found interest. Yes, he still want to joint the class. And he actually know the lesson taught by the teacher as he repeated it with mummy when being asked. This boy really is a hard nut to crack with. Very much hope that he continue to enjoy the class with the rest of the kids (just only 4 of them including Ivan). We can see that he got some talent in music, the rest we trust God to bring it out and develop it.

Is planning costly?

It was already the second day of 2009. Something very important is missing in my fresh start of the new year. I still haven't got a diary planner. Few years back, it was an abundance. You don't need to really ask for it. Your bankers, insurance agents, suppliers, contractors would be sending it to you. Well, things have changed.

Like last year, I bought my own diary. In fact from the same place; Jusco. Costing me RM19 (with discount - after new year ma). I have gotten used to Jusco's diary format. So my first act of planning for this year have just cost me a tiny whinny of monetary value. But it would be more costly if I don't. There were a popular saying that mention, 'If you don't plan, you plan to fail'. Well, consider the first act was an investment for a greater course.

January itself already a busy month itself. Chinese New Year festival which is just 3 weeks to go and will be the main theme of the month. I got my 3rd Cambodia work trip already in the queue. The rest of the priority is yet to be laid down accordingly for example Family, Children, Finance and etc.

So, is planning costly? Think carefully.

It's no play play

JPJ have issued 242 summonses to drivers whose passengers did not buckle up at 28 locations nationwide at the first day of 2009.

Vehicle owners and passengers will be given until June 30 during which they will only be issued a compound fine of RM300 for not wearing the belts. From July 1, they can be fined up to RM2,000, jailed a maximum of one year or both under the Road Transport Act.

Looks like JPJ is working extra hard nowadays since they even rolled up their sleeves working throughout new year eve until the following new year enforcing the new seat belt ruling. Hope the extra afford pays off in long run in saving more life on the road provided the enforcement is being kept and maintained. In the meantime, I got to make sure my passengers is always buckle up too.
