Multivitamins for kids

Presently Reanne has been taking multivitamins i.e. Appeton Multivitamins Lysine syrup as recommended by paediatrician to boost her appetite and promoting her growth.

It already about 2 weeks since she took it. Unfortunately she don't like it. No choice we still feed her not wanting her to slip further in her physical development. Still too early to see the result. Somehow she has been improving in drinking her milk and eating her porridge.

Multivitamins with Lysine that improve appetite, promote growth in height and weight for children. Appeton Multivitamins Lysine Syrup is a complimentary health preparation for the growing age. It contains Vitamin B1, B2, B6 which are regarded as metabolic catalysis from the biochemical point of view today. They are necessary for the normal processes in protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism. The present of Vitamin C helps to prevent the occurrence of scurvy (sore gums and teeth) and increase body resistance to infection. The fat soluble Vitamin A and D3 ensure good eye sight and the maintenance of proper level of calcium in the body fluids. The latter ensure healthy growth of bones and teeth. Vitamin B12 together with Folic Acid are essential for cell formation especially red blood cells and they are vital in preventing certain forms of anaemia. Vitamin E is for proper cell function. Nicotinamide is for normal skin condition and nervous system. L-Lysine improves appetite and protein synthesis.

Appeton Multivitamins Lysine Syrup is to be taken once a day. It is recommended for children from 0-4 years to take 2.5ml daily. Children above 4 years are recommended to take 5ml daily

IngredientsEach 5 ml contains: L-lysine 100mg, Vitamin A 5000i.u., Vitamin D3 400 i.u., Vitamin E 10mg, Vitamin B1 2mg, Vitamin B2 1mg, Vitamin B6 1mg, Nicotinamide 20 mg, Vitamin C 30 mg, D-Panthenol 10mg.

Swine Flu: On Phase 5 alert

The Geneva-based World Health Organization on Wednesday raised its alert level for the fast-spreading swine flu to its next-to-highest notch i.e. Phase 5, signaling a global pandemic could be imminent as the virus spread further and yielded its first death outside of Mexico.

Phase 5 signaling when human-to-human transmission in at least two countries. Strong signal pandemic imminent.

"It really is all of humanity that is under threat during a pandemic," said WHO Director General Margaret Chan. "We do not have all the answers right now but we will get them." WHO's flu chief Keiji Fukuda said countries now need to ramp up their lab capacity to be able to quickly test patients suspected to have the flu, and improve disease surveillance. "Probably the single most important thing is that the populations are informed," he added.

Personally we gotto be alert from now, not to be ignorant about it. I got my family to minimise the intake of pork until the situation improve further since they are going to vaccinate the animal.

1st anniversary

It was one year ago that this blog was born in the 'fast and furous' blogsphere. To be exact, it was last 19th April 2008 when the first blog was posted.
Happy anniversary!

Swine Flu: Vaccination for pigs

Some 200,000 frontliners including police and immigration personnel on duty at airports will be given flu jabs as a precautionary measure against the swine flu, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. Pigs will also be vaccinated.

I just wonder whether we should abstain from consuming pork until all this 'pandemic' is over. Like it or not the pigs from now on will be jab with a lot of drugs to keep them away from the current flu infection. We who sits on top of the food chain will the end be receiver of all the by products.

Best ways to banish germs away from children

It doesn't take a germ warrior to keep a family well-protected from bug-borne illness. Just follow these seven basic, important steps:

1. Teach your children to wash their hands at these key times: after going to the bathroom, petting an animal, or playing outside, and before eating.
2. Do hand washing right: With soap and water, it takes 20 seconds of scrubbing to kill the germs that need to be killed.
3. Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer with you for visits to playgrounds, mall food courts, and other places where there might not be a sink handy. Be sure to cover every part of the hand, including under the nails, if possible.
4. After preparing meat or poultry, wash cutting boards with hot, soapy water and spray counter tops with disinfectant. The bacteria commonly found on raw meats — including campylobacter, salmonella, and E. coli — are more dangerous than any other germs you're likely to have in the house.
5. Wash small cuts and scrapes with soap and water. Apply an antibacterial ointment, put on a bandage, and change the bandage every day until the wound heals.
6. Make sure your children are up to date on their
vaccinations, and consider getting them a flu shot every year. A school-age child who's been vaccinated against the flu is less likely to bring home a bug that can infect the entire family.
7. If someone in your house is sick, take a moment to clean doorknobs, television remotes, toys, and other items your children touch throughout the day.

On the hunt for ASW2020

long queue outside the Maybank

It was not a fruitful afford while trying to get hold some of the new additional Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 funds which was open for public yesterday.

I started to queue along with the crowd about 9.30am at my housing Maybank branch. The bank opened about 9.15 am. Each person was given a number to wait for our turn. I managed to get number 101. By the time 11.30am, it only managed to processed 15th costumer due to the busy online transaction. I can't wait any longer so I off to IRB office for my next to do list - submitting my income tax e-filing.

When I came back later about 1.30pm, the officer said the funds is already finished. The next day radio news mentioned that non-bumi quotas was snap up within 4 hours. My friend who managed to purchase the fund, started to queue at 7am. This I learn my lesson well. Early bird catches the worms. I lost my worms.

Swine Flu FAQ

What is swine influenza?
It is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A strains of the influenza virus. It regularly causes high flu outbreaks in pigs but with low death rates. There are four main sub-types of the virus, but the most recent isolated influenza viruses from pigs have been H1N1 viruses.
How does it spread?
Swine flu viruses do not typically infect humans though they do occur through close proximity or contact with infected pigs or contaminated areas. Cases of human-to-human spread have been documented.
What are the symptoms?
The symptoms are similar to those of regular flu:- Fever- Lethargy- Runny nose- Cough- Sore throat- Lack of appetite- Vomiting and diarrhoea in some cases.

Can people catch swine flu by eating pork?
No. Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 70ºC and above kills the swine flu virus.

What can I do to protect myself from the swine flu?
There is no vaccine available right now to protect against the swine flu. However, you can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza by:
- Covering your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or handkerchief when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the waste basket after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also helpful
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people. - If you get sick with influenza, stay at home and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Consult your nearest healthcare facility if you think you have any of the symptoms

Doing my due

Yesterday took leave to settle my Income Tax submission at IRB PGRM, Cheras office. I have already pre-enter and save in my file and Pei's file in the e-filing system. I went to clarify certain issues before I officially send in my e-filing.

There were many PCs made available for people like me to do e-filing there and then. The crowds are building up for a last minutes submission. I finally settle my job there within one hour. This is my 2nd e-filing since last year. Pretty convenient but bear in mind to keep all hard copies of supporting documentations for at least 7 years just in case IRB would ask for clarification

Swin Flu Alert

A deadly swine flu virus first detected in Mexico can no longer be contained, a World Health Organization (WHO) official has said. WHO Assistant Director General Keiji Fukuda said countries should now focus on mitigating the effects of the virus.

The WHO has raised its alert level from three to four, two steps short of declaring a full pandemic. Mexico earlier said it believed 149 people had now died from the swine flu, though only 20 cases are confirmed. The US, Canada, Spain and Britain have confirmed milder versions.

The WHO's decision to raise the alert level to four came after an emergency meeting of experts, brought forward by a day because of concerns over the outbreak. Level four means the virus is showing a sustained ability to pass from human to human, and is able to cause community-level outbreaks.

Phase 1: No viruses circulating among animals causing infections in humans
Phase 2: Animal influenza virus causes infection in humans, and is considered potential pandemic threat
Phase 3: Influenza causes sporadic cases in people, but no significant human-to-human transmission
Phase 4: Verified human-to-human transmission able to cause community-level outbreaks. Significant increase in risk of a pandemic
Phase 5: Human-to-human transmission in at least two countries. Strong signal pandemic imminent
Phase 6: Virus spreads to another country in a different region. Global pandemic under way

Sunday School Easter Party

Last Sunday, church Sunday School organised an Easter Party for the childrens. There were games and of course food as well.

Ivan have an enjoyable time himself with his peers. Still not really independ as he wants either me or Pei to accompany him everytime when attending Sunday School. Hope he can explores and makes friend more on his own.

Lets colour

Here I am trying to make Ivan 'busy' with some colouring works. He did improved his colouring skill as he try to master the pencil holding technique as well as colouring technique. Good thing he likes it.
Actually the task also have make me busy sketching drawings for him to colour. Not to mention supervising as well. As long as it able to keep him occupied and learned new things rather than running around in the house

Just imagine

Obama at his father native land, Kenya years before his presidential journey
Now, at White House

The most inspirational event this decade have to be the inauguration of Mr. Barack Obama as the first ever African-American President in the American history.

Some say it was the most unlikely thing to happen. Moreover on the life of Obama. He was born at Honolulu, Hawaii, United States to Stanley Ann Dunham, an American of mainly English descent from Wichita, Kansas, and Barack Obama, Sr., a Luo from Nyang’oma Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya.

Really it is not about our background or where we came from. But where we are heading is the determination factor. Or some people would is how we end.

Barbie doll, please?

Er Yee (Soo Mei) and Reanne playing hand puppet

Unlike the big brother Ivan, Reanne so far still the quiet one. Likes to play by herself most of the time.
Her latest development, we noticed she has a new doll. Next......a barbie doll?

The playful one

Needed to say, Ivan is the most playful one among the siblings right now. Of late he wants his photo to be taken but on his own style of you can see above. A lot of people said that his the "joy" of the family.
One problem though, he needs to learn when to play and when not to play. Anyhow sometimes as adult on the other hand just need to learn how to let loose and have fun like kids again.

Breastfeeding 'protects mother'

Women who breastfeed their babies may be lowering their own risk of a heart attack, heart disease or stroke, research suggests.

A US study found women who breastfed for more than a year were 10% less likely to develop the conditions than those who never breastfed. Even breastfeeding for at least a month may cut the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The research features in the journal Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The study adds to a growing body of evidence suggesting breastfeeding has health benefits for both mother and baby.
Research has found that breastfeeding reduces a woman's risk of ovarian and breast cancer and osteoporosis in later life.

And the list of benefits for the baby is long, with breast milk credited with protecting against obesity, diabetes, asthma and infections of the ear, stomach and chest.
As well as cutting the risk of heart problems, breastfeeding for more than a year cut the risk of high blood pressure by 12%, and diabetes and high cholesterol by around 20%.

Worry about Reanne

Ever since last Thursday visitation to our regular pediatrician, we have been worrying a lot and concern about Reanne recent development.
Any parents heart will be at lost if their toddler is not 'growing' in their development. For Reanne case, her weight had dropped compared to last month. Her height not really improved, just marginally. This effects due to the fact that she has been refusing to drink milk bottle ever since Pei try to supplement her more with baby formula. Resuming breastfeeding only at night and early morning. The rest of the day she only shucks but 2-3 oz. The remaining has to be spoon fed. Last 2 days was worst, she doesn't want the bottle at all. We are left heart broken seeing her situation like that.
Our last afford was to introduce Reanne with a better fortified baby formula especially for toddler whose development are falling behind. But she just not taking enough of it to improve her situation. Headache and heartache. We just don't understand why she refused baby formula feed through bottle.
Now we are trying supplement her with Multi-vits (syrup) and yogurt to complement the nutricient her body needs. A part from that, she is just active playing around the house, talking, lately singing, showing interest in book reading.
Lord, please help Reanne to overcome this phase quickly so that her physical body and other aspects of her development growth will not be affected at any degree at all. What so ever factors that cause her to reject/refuse milk formula, Lord nullified its influence. Improve her intake of milk and other solid foods from day to day until she is fully regain to her body requirement. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Be careful of false kidnapping

As reported in the Star, a woman almost lost RM100,000 ransom money after receiving call claiming that her children had been kidnapped.
However, the plan was foiled after the woman went to her children’s school and found that they were still in their classes.
This is not the first case but many already. This bogus kidnapper is on the rise. This also shows that people are getting more desperate for easy money in this challenging time where retrenchment is still increasing.
As parents we ought to and no choice but to be extra, extra careful. Most of all commit our childrens safety into God's mighty hands.

Dietary Guidelines for Healthy Adults

Current Dietary Requirements for Healty Adults
  1. Meet the requirement for energy and all essential nutrients
  2. Reduce the intake of fat - especially saturated fat
  3. Increase the intake of non-starch polysaccharide (dietary fibre)
  4. Reduce the intake of sugar
  5. Reduce the intake of salt
  6. Avoid excessive intake of alcohol
  7. Maintain ideal body weight
Dietary Changes to Help Achieve Current Guidelines for Fat Intake
  1. Reduce the intake of butter and margarine or replace with a low fat spread. Both margarine and butter have exactly the same fat content. Using a margarine that is high in polyunsaturates will reduce the intake of saturated fat, but not of total fat. Low fat spreads contain half the fat of margarine and butter.
  2. Reduce the intake of fried foods. Choose an oil low in saturated fat, such as sunflower, corn, olive or soya.
  3. Limit the intake of chocolate, cakes, biscuits, crisps and pastries as much as possible.
  4. Reduce the consumption of fatty meat and avoid sausages, bacon, beef burgers and meat pies as much as possible. Always choose the leanest cuts of meat and trim of excess fats. Poultry may be substituted for meat but the skin should be removed - chicken with the skin contains about twice as much fat on a g/100, basis as lean roast lamb or pork.
  5. Increase the intake of white fish. White fish has a negligible fat content unless it is fried in breadcrumbs. Fatty fish such as mackerel, herring and sardine contains as much fat as red meat, but is rich in the n-3 polyunsaturates and can be recommended as a replacement for meat.
  6. Use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk as a matter of course. These both contain the same amount of protein and calcium as whole milk.
  7. Reduce intake of hard cheese. Edam, Brie, Camembert and Feta cheese contain less fat than hard cheeses, such as Cheshire and Cheddar. Reduced-fat varieties of both hard and soft cheese are now available and contain about half the fat of the normal varieties. Cottage cheese and "fromage frais" are much lower in fat than hard cheeses.
  8. Cream, or products containing it, should only be consumed very occasionally. Avoid double cream as much as possible. Imitation creams often contain as much fat as fresh creams. Yoghurt may be used as an alternative.
Dietary Change to Help Achieve the Recommended Requirements of Non-Starch Polysaccharide (NSP or Dietary Fibre)

  1. Change to a breakfast cereal high in NSP. They are usually labelled "high fibre" but the content of NSP should always be checked on the package label.
  2. Change to a wholegrain bread. There are wholemeal varieties of chapatti, nan and pitta bread.
  3. Use wholemeal flour in baking or half white and half wholemeal flour.
  4. Eat wholemeal rather than white pasta. Try to eat pasta, rice or potatoes once a day.
  5. Eat peas, beans or lentils at least three times a week. Pulses can be used as occasional replacements for meat.Eat at least five servings of fresh vegetables and fruit everyday.
6 Ways to Cut-Down Your Sugar
  1. Avoid adding sugar to drinks and breakfast cereals.
  2. Choose low calorie canned drinks.
  3. Choose tinned fruit in juice rather than syrup.
  4. Reduce the amount of sugar in recipes where possible.
  5. Avoid sugar coated breakfast cereals - check labels for sugar content.
  6. Reduce the intake of sweets, chocolates, cakes and sweet biscuits as much as possible.

The sixth PM

So it is done. We Malaysian today have observed a newly minted sixth Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak taking the helm from Abdullah Badawi. At the same time, Abdullah and Jeanne were conferred the nation's highest award, the Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN), which carries the title "Tun", by Tuanku Mizan.

Unlike Obama, our new PM stands out greatly being watch under the microscope on what can he do from now as well as what some people claimed he had done before this. Most interestingly, a lot wants to know the latter.

Personally, for a promoted general which have not fight a battle along his ways be given a task to handle a war is somewhat not giving the needed confident to his people. Sad to say, the general got too much baggage to allow him to shine. Worst, he is not the favourable one but then who can hold the post. The previous PM started with much hope and expectation ended sadly with dissappointments by the rakyat, holding only 5 years premiership.
