Beware of mosquitos

Just before new year, my father in-law was admitted due to dengue like symptoms. His entire body joints was aching especially the back portion of his head. It was very unbearable to him given that he is a very tough person. Sure enough the blood count was very low. Unfortunately there is no medications or drugs available to cure this sickness. The doctor only prescription is to drink plenty of water into the body system.

Thank God after two days, the blood count (white and platelets) have improved and able to be discharged accordingly. Normal person have 4,000–11,000 white blood cells and about 150,000–400,000 platelets in each microliter of human blood. Anything lower than that is not healthy.

While we are there visiting at University Hospital, there were plenty of other patients with dengue cases. And worst, new ones are still being admitted daily until there were limited wards available. Do take action to keep mosquito spreading around our living area and keep an eye on any symptoms that liken to dengue.

Signs and Symptoms

• sudden onset of severe headache, muscle and joint pains
  
• fever,
• rash. The dengue rash is characteristically bright red and usually appears first on the lower limbs and the chest; in some patients, it spreads to cover most of the body.
• There may also be gastritis with some combination of associated abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

Big saver

It was a well worth hunting that we did last Sunday that finally enable us to save...... a bit more to the wallet.

Few days before that the very essential breast pump we need around for Reanne was accidentally broken. Mummy was very frustrated. First because the pump was a bit costly tools which we brought it during Ivan breastfeeding period. Second, since it was broken mummy enable to extract milks for storage. So, it was pretty urgent to quickly get a new one.

We start an immediate search for it. It was not that the breast pump was difficult to find. In fact it was a very popular brand i.e. Avent which is available at most baby stores. The problem is that we wanted to safe as much for this re-investment. Retail priced at RM219 just for the pump set. Unfortunately we can't find any at Jusco, Parkson or other baby stores around our Kajang area even though it was sales period.

Then mummy found out that Babyjaya at Damansara Utama offered 20% discount for the specific pump that we are looking for. We waited until Sunday after worship service to drop by. It was our first time visiting the store. Thanks to my brother direction (whom been there before), we manage to found it. There it was......unbelievable only RM189. We just save ourselves RM30.

On the other hand, we also found something that we have been trying high and low looking around for. A multi purpose hook (RM17.90) to be added to the baby stroller. Talk about hunting for treasures.

Surely Babyjaya is quite a place we want to recommend for finding great products and bargains. Anyway they are still having sales promotion until 11th Jan 2009.

Potty anyone?

Out of the blue, we just try running a trial potty training for our little girl Reanne today. Anyway after coming home from Sunday service today in ther afternoon, Reanne still have not do her regular poo-poo yet. So, what the heck.....we decided to borrow Ivan potty for Reanne to try on. After some persuasion by mummy you know by doing the pushing sound, Reanne did do her 'business'. It's a big hurray for our little girl today. Keep up the good 'business' Mei Mei!

Ivan attend music class

3rd Jan (Saturday) marked a starting of new learning curve for our boy Ivan. He started his first day of the Yamaha Music Kids at the Kajang Yamaha studio. I have previously brought him for the trial class one month ago.

This round is mummy turn to accompany him through the course for the next nine months. I on the other hand, get my hands full with taking care of Reanne by lepaking around the shopping centre.......for one hour. Not bad on my part as Reanne was very co-operative as I stroll her around while window shopping for my potential new year clothes.

After one hour is up, we showed up at the studio to see how the mummy-son team doing. While waiting Reanne shown an interest at a demo digital piano which being displayed there. I can't help it as I graped my camera starting to capture Reanne enthusiatic expression.....especially her fingers. Possible for an up and coming pianist when now we got ourselves a drummer?

Well, Ivan did ok for his first actual lesson. Mummy said he didn't participated much, may be just still shy. Need more of the breaking the ais things I guess. When we were on our car while driving back home, we can't help it but try to get some assurance of his new found interest. Yes, he still want to joint the class. And he actually know the lesson taught by the teacher as he repeated it with mummy when being asked. This boy really is a hard nut to crack with. Very much hope that he continue to enjoy the class with the rest of the kids (just only 4 of them including Ivan). We can see that he got some talent in music, the rest we trust God to bring it out and develop it.

Is planning costly?

It was already the second day of 2009. Something very important is missing in my fresh start of the new year. I still haven't got a diary planner. Few years back, it was an abundance. You don't need to really ask for it. Your bankers, insurance agents, suppliers, contractors would be sending it to you. Well, things have changed.

Like last year, I bought my own diary. In fact from the same place; Jusco. Costing me RM19 (with discount - after new year ma). I have gotten used to Jusco's diary format. So my first act of planning for this year have just cost me a tiny whinny of monetary value. But it would be more costly if I don't. There were a popular saying that mention, 'If you don't plan, you plan to fail'. Well, consider the first act was an investment for a greater course.

January itself already a busy month itself. Chinese New Year festival which is just 3 weeks to go and will be the main theme of the month. I got my 3rd Cambodia work trip already in the queue. The rest of the priority is yet to be laid down accordingly for example Family, Children, Finance and etc.

So, is planning costly? Think carefully.

It's no play play

JPJ have issued 242 summonses to drivers whose passengers did not buckle up at 28 locations nationwide at the first day of 2009.

Vehicle owners and passengers will be given until June 30 during which they will only be issued a compound fine of RM300 for not wearing the belts. From July 1, they can be fined up to RM2,000, jailed a maximum of one year or both under the Road Transport Act.

Looks like JPJ is working extra hard nowadays since they even rolled up their sleeves working throughout new year eve until the following new year enforcing the new seat belt ruling. Hope the extra afford pays off in long run in saving more life on the road provided the enforcement is being kept and maintained. In the meantime, I got to make sure my passengers is always buckle up too.

1st 2009 good news

As reported in TheStar, employees will enjoy more goodies in the form of new tax exemptions for a host of things, as announced in the Budget 2009.

Taxpayers who receive petrol, parking and travelling allowances can now claim tax relief of up to RM6,000 a year.

Parents can also claim up to RM2,400 a year for childcare fees, while exemptions are also provided for telephone and handphone, pager, Personal Data Assistant (PDA) and Internet subscriptions.

Those claiming for medical benefits could also enjoy tax relief for maternity expenses and buying and seeking traditional medicines and services respectively. They include ayurvedic and acupuncture treatments.
